Saga Humane Society would like to give our sincerest appreciation to Fido’s Restaurant and Kelly McGuire for hosting “Singing for Saga” on December 3.  There was a full house to listen to the incredible music of island favorite Kelly McGuire.  The crowd was enthusiastic in their support of Saga HS during our live auction with Kelly. To everyone’s delight Cowboy Doug, a livestock auctioneer from Texas, took the stage to help Kelly on a few items.  Thank you Fido’s, your hardworking staff and Kelly for helping make the night a barking success.  With the proceeds from the night Saga HS will be able to SNIP and vaccinate over 50 island pets.

Saga HS is truly grateful to the support of our local business community and their generous donations to our auction and raffle. Romantic Travel Belize, The Lady LeslieSausage Factory, Fido’s Restaurant, Palapa Bar & Grill, Caliente Restaurant, Debbie Cooper, No Rush, Go Fish Belize, San Pedro Scoop and Tamara Sorensen. Please show your support to local businesses that support their community.

We are grateful to our hardworking volunteers who helped make this event a hit Illiana Paj, Haylay Baer and Rebecca Coutant.

The Saga Humane Society would like to give our sincerest gratitude to everyone who helped in first of our October SNIP-a-thon clinics with Helping Paws Across Borders Oct.7-12. They were an international team of Veterinarians and Vet Tech’s who held Operation SNIP clinics at Saga Clinic, DFC and Caye Caulker. Helping Paws completed over 150 FREE spay/neuters and 200 vaccinations for our communities. The animals were sterilized, treated for internal and external parasites and vaccinated against disease. All items and services were donated to Saga HS and Helping Paws (USA NGO) by individuals to benefit San Pedro. San Pedro gains economically by having these visiting Veterinary teams. By sterilizing their pets, the community will become invested in the steps needed to control over population of domestic animals in San Pedro.

We appreciate these dedicated caring professionals for coming to assist the animals of Belize. Helping Paws worked with always changing conditions from a power outage, rain during our MASH clinic and even helped round up some strays. They even got a chance to help assist in an operation on Lucky a loggerhead turtle brought to Saga HS by Ambergris Caye Marine Turtle Program. Lucky had lost her back flipper to a shark bite. She was patched up and is now in recovery at the Hol Chan Marine Office. To continue the wildlife theme they stitched up a Wish Willie who had been attacked by a dog. We cannot say Thank You enough to these compassionate professionals.

A special Thank you to Mrs. Adaly Ayuso, for hosting our team during a MASH clinic in DFC at her residence. This was a tremendous help in bringing the medical teams to be closer to the animals and save the time and expense of transportation to the Saga HS clinic. We appreciate your generosity of spirit and commitment to your community.

We would like to give our Thanks to our local business community who helped sponsor this event and helped make these clinics such a success. It is with their support and donations that enable us to provide these services to our community. Please support those businesses that support their community.

Our staff, board and local volunteers were truly the best. They worked hard, helped immensely and we are lucky to have such dedicated supporters. It’s through perseverance like theirs that we are able to help our island animals. Thank you.

The goal of Operation SNIP is to sterilize 75% of the island animals in 3-5 years. This will STABILIZE the pet population. In doing so, virtually NO PETS will be strays, wandering and breeding freely. No animals will be born that will not have Forever homes. Saga HS has pledged to raise money or bring visiting Veterinary teams to offer low cost or free spay/neuter, with a goal of 1,000 animals per year during this project. Contact us if you can donate your time or services to the worthily cause.

THANKSGIVING WENT TO THE DOGS at Fido’s with Kelly McGuire!  What an AWESOME and fun evening!

Our heartfelt thanks, purrs and tail wags go out to the fabulous musician and performer Kelly McGuire and Fido’s Restaurant and Bar (especially Nancy and Brian) for sponsoring Saga’s Fundraiser Thanksgiving concert & dinner on Thanksgiving night.

It was a beautiful evening, Kelly sounded fantastic, and everyone was dancing, singing and enjoying their wonderful Turkey and Pibil dinners that Fido’s created for the event.

The event was a great success!  Saga raised $2,170 BZ!  A whopping $980 came from the percentage of proceeds donated by Fido’s from their dinners and drink specials, $480 was donated from Kelly himself through a special auction of the “shirt off his back” and the percentage of proceeds from the sale of his own items at the show, $200 from a private donation by Mr. Paul Robertson and family, and $510 from the sale of raffle tickets for our wonderful prizes:  Snorkel Trip for two from Chuck and Robbie’s Diving, Sunset Sail for two courtesy of Belize Travel Adventures, a rod and reel from Captain Shark’s Marine Center, and a lovely gift basket from Kakaw Belizean Chocolate!

Thank you again to all these wonderful businesses for their donations, the individuals who came out to Fido’s to support Saga as part of their Thanksgiving celebrations, and Kelly, Nancy & Brian, and the tireless and energetic Saga volunteer crew: our Promoter Rebecca Coutant (a/k/a SanPedroScoop.com) from afar, LouAnn & Bob, Sue Rousseau-Speedy and Terry Speedy, Grant Crimmins.  Thanks also to Cindy of Changes in Latitudes Bed & Breakfast, who took photos for SanPedroScoop blog in Rebecca’s absence.

Here are some photos (courtesy of BeBelize blog) from the event for those who missed out on the festivities.

Thanks again, everyone!
