Saga Humane Society would like to give our sincere Thanks to all of our supporters in the San Pedro Town community for helping to make our 10th Annual Halloween Party a fantastic success.  Thank you for your hospitality to our gracious hostess Charlene Woods and the amazing staff at BC’s Beach Bar. The beach was alive with the dynamic sounds of Valentino, aroma of delicious food and the sounds of giggling children.  It was a great day, despite the downpour and hurricane winds that blew the tents down.  Eventually the rain stopped, the sun came out and everyone had a howling good time. Our honored judges this year were Tamara Sniffin, Jan Brown, and Allen Soto.  They had a hard time deciding on the winners of the various Costume Contests. After much discussion the winners were announced. There was a tie for Cutest!

1st Cutest                                  Yankee as Pupcake                    Tula

1st Cutest                                  Bella as a Witch                         David and Benjamin

2nd Cutest                                  Pumpkin Princess                      Elsa

Scariest                                     Voshi as Zombie Dog               Siomarie

Best Team                                 Monsterish Dogs                      Monster High

Thank you to San Pedro Town Council for the use, delivery, setup of tables and tents.  The business community of San Pedro was very generous in their donations for our raffles, food and Silent Auction.  We would like to give our Thanks to our local business community who helped sponsor this event and helped make these events such a success. It is with their support and donations that enable us to continue providing services to our community. Please support those businesses that support their community. Please accept our humble gratitude.

A very special Thanks to all the volunteers who made this event possible. Our staff, board and local volunteers are truly the finest. They worked hard, helped enormously and we are fortunate to have such committed supporters. We couldn’t have done it without great cook Carolina Zapata. It’s through determination like theirs that we are able to help our island animals. Thank you all.

Through the generosity of all the people and businesses listed above, and also of the people of San Pedro Town who attended this event, Saga will be able to continue offering services to our community through Operation SNIP. The goal of Operation SNIP is to sterilize 75% of the island animals in 3-5 years.  This will STABILIZE the pet population. In doing so, virtually NO PETS will be strays, wandering and breeding freely. No animals will be born that will not have Forever homes.

The Saga Humane Society would like to give our sincerest gratitude to everyone who helped in first of our October SNIP-a-thon clinics with Helping Paws Across Borders Oct.7-12. They were an international team of Veterinarians and Vet Tech’s who held Operation SNIP clinics at Saga Clinic, DFC and Caye Caulker. Helping Paws completed over 150 FREE spay/neuters and 200 vaccinations for our communities. The animals were sterilized, treated for internal and external parasites and vaccinated against disease. All items and services were donated to Saga HS and Helping Paws (USA NGO) by individuals to benefit San Pedro. San Pedro gains economically by having these visiting Veterinary teams. By sterilizing their pets, the community will become invested in the steps needed to control over population of domestic animals in San Pedro.

We appreciate these dedicated caring professionals for coming to assist the animals of Belize. Helping Paws worked with always changing conditions from a power outage, rain during our MASH clinic and even helped round up some strays. They even got a chance to help assist in an operation on Lucky a loggerhead turtle brought to Saga HS by Ambergris Caye Marine Turtle Program. Lucky had lost her back flipper to a shark bite. She was patched up and is now in recovery at the Hol Chan Marine Office. To continue the wildlife theme they stitched up a Wish Willie who had been attacked by a dog. We cannot say Thank You enough to these compassionate professionals.

A special Thank you to Mrs. Adaly Ayuso, for hosting our team during a MASH clinic in DFC at her residence. This was a tremendous help in bringing the medical teams to be closer to the animals and save the time and expense of transportation to the Saga HS clinic. We appreciate your generosity of spirit and commitment to your community.

We would like to give our Thanks to our local business community who helped sponsor this event and helped make these clinics such a success. The goal of Operation SNIP is to sterilize 75% of the island animals in 3-5 years. This will STABILIZE the pet population. In doing so, virtually NO PETS will be strays, wandering and breeding freely. No animals will be born that will not have Forever homes. Saga HS has pledged to raise money or bring visiting Veterinary teams to offer low cost or free spay/neuter, with a goal of 1,000 animals per year during this project. Contact us if you can donate your time or services to the worthily cause.

Helping Paws Across Borders KNOWS It’s Hip to SNIP!

Saga HS is pleased to announce an October  SNIP-a-thon. During the month of October Saga HS will be hosting two different visiting Veterinary groups to hold free spay/neuter clinics for the low income residents of Ambergris Caye. In addition to the free spay/neuters the teams will be doing additional CDV vaccinations, and dog training sessions for public. The goal is to sterilize over 300 island pets during the month.

Helping Paws Across Borders will be in San Pedro Oct. 7-10. They will be bringing a team of 15 including Veterinarians, Vet Techs, and dog trainers.  This group will focus their efforts on the neighborhoods of DFC, San Juan and Downtown. Because of limited space at the Saga HS clinic, MASH (Mobile Animals Surgical Hospital)type clinic will be held in DFC at Mrs. Adaly Ayuso. This will allow the medical teams to be closer to the animals and save the time and expense of transportation to the Saga HS clinic. Helping Paws Across Boarders stated goal is to reach out to other countries and make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected companion animals. Supply medicine and medical equipment to local Animal Shelters. To educate local clinic volunteer’s in shelter medicine. Stop overpopulation of companion animals in undeveloped countries. Be available to assist in spay and neuter clinics when and where we might be needed. Interacting with the local children and making animal welfare educational material available to them.

Hopkins Humane Society will be in San Pedro Oct. 18-21. They will be bringing a team including Veterinarians and Vet Techs.  This group will focus on San Mateo.
More details to come.
