Known for their fabulous wings and chili, AJ’s will be our host for May! Challenge the host…think about all the different ’Bar Food or Finger Food’ available to make. It’s easy to enter a dish. And a Nano IPOD is the First Place Prize for the winning dish!
The monthly cook-off is always a fun social event for the whole family. Bring the kids…bring your dog! We look forward to seeing you all there!
To enter a dish, please call the clinic at 226-3266, or contact any Saga representative. Your dish needs to serve a minimum of 65 bite size or sample size servings. Registration is not required, but encouraged. Please bring your entry by 6:00 p.m. on the night of the event. Food serving starts approximately 6:20pm. Tickets sell fast!

Hi! My name is Tootsie! I was rescued a month or so ago by the good folks at Pampered Paws and brought to Saga. I was a real mess but as you can see I am all better now. Ticks Are ‘Ick’ – Deadly Tick Fever

Everyone dislikes parasites. They are unpleasant, unwelcome, they suck our blood and they spread disease. What many people don’t know is that those annoying pests, ticks, spread a deadly disease to our furry best friends, known as tick fever.
There are several diseases, commonly called ‘tick fever’, spread by ticks, but the two most common in Belize are Canine Erlichiosis and Canine Anaplasmosis. Big words for serious diseases that come from something as tiny as at tick.
Pit Boss was the name given to a very sad and sick young pit bull, who like many of his breed had been bought by irresponsible owners who cared little for him. When a local businesswoman found Pit Boss, he was a walking skeleton – every bone showing through his skin, his dark eyes bulging from his head, pleading for help. Cook Off Appetizers Thanks March 14, 2012

SAGA Humane Society would like to give a big Thank You to Mojito Bar and Deona and her staff for hosting our monthly cook-off, ‘Appetizers’ on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. We had special guests for the night – a group of (14) professionals from World Vets who were here providing the community with a 3-day, free spay & neuter clinic. Everyone was treated to fabulous entries by some of Ambergris Cayes best restaurants and home chefs.
Winners were: 1st place was won by The Hotel with their ‘Potato Skins’. There was a Tie for 2nd Place between our hosts Deona Pilgrim of Mojito Bar with their ‘Garnaches’ and Kate Corrigan of Crave Restaurant with their ‘Fish Cakes’. It was tough judging for all those attending.

World Vets to assist SAGA Humane Society in “Fix your dog to fix up San Pedro”.

SAGA Humane Society in its ongoing effort to help control the pet population in San Pedro is collaborating with World Vets to offer a FREE Spay & Neuter for pets in low income household’s, March 13-15, 2012. There will be an international team of Veterinarians, Vet Techs, Assistants and Veterinarian Students to offer FREE services to the community of San Pedro. This NGO states on their website “Our mission is to provide veterinary aid in developing countries and veterinary disaster relief worldwide.” This is the second year this wonderful organization has brought it’s much needed services to La Isla Bonita. In 2011 the team was able to Spay/Neuter over 50 animals. This year the goal is to more than double these numbers. Please give these exceptional volunteers a warm island welcome if you see them about town.

David and Blue

David and Blue back in town. David adopted blue a couple years ago from SAGA and they are back visiting. Blue likes to come back and visit the island but is very happy to have his Forever Home in the US.
